Formative Assessment

Summative Assessment

Are used to evaluate students learning, skill acquisition, and academic achievement at the conclusion of a defined instructional period-typically at the end of a project, unit, course, semester, program, or school year.

Is to monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback that can be used by instructors to improve their teaching and by students to improve their learning.

Measures an individual´s abilities and skills in a domain or subject to know how well he/she has learned, understood, and internalized the related concepts and principles.

Is designed to assess what a person is capable of doing or to predict what a person is able to learn or do given the right education and instruction.

Diagnostic Test

Is a type of pre-evaluation that allows the teacher to discover how much knowledge a student has on a subject matter.

Formal Assessment

Is a data-driven method of evaluating students, usually with well-defined grading parameters.

are undertaken activities and anecdotal evidence gathered throughout the teaching and learning process in a less prescribed manner than formal assessment.

is a type of assessment that allows teachers to compare a student´s results to someone else in their peer group.
