Arteries of Neck

LATERAL CERVICAL REGION

subclavian artery

thyrocervical trunk

suprascapular artery

supply muscles on the posterior aspect of the scapula.

cervicodorsal trunk (transverse cervical artery)

superficial cervical artery (superficial branch of transverse cervical artery)

passes deep (anterior) to the trapezius
accompanying the spinal accessory nerve (CN XI)

dorsal scapular artery (deep branch of transverse cervical
artery)

pass through
the trunks of the brachial plexus, supplying branches to their vasa nervorum (blood vessels of nerves)

Supply: levator scapulae
and rhomboid

anastomoses around the scapula

terminal branches are the ascending cervical and inferior thyroid artery

Supply: Upper limb

*contact with the 1st rib as it passes posterior to the anterior
scalene muscle

Occipital Artery

*branch of the external carotid artery

Supply: posterior half of the scalp

ANTERIOR CERVICAL REGION

common carotid artery

*Bifurcates at Thyroid cartilage

internal carotid artery

Supply brain and structures in
the orbits

external carotid artery

Supply structures external to cranium

Ascending pharyngeal artery

Supply: pharynx,
prevertebral muscles, middle ear, and cranial meninges

Occipital Artery

Posterior auricular artery

ascends posteriorly between the
external acoustic meatus and mastoid process to supply
the adjacent muscles; parotid gland; facial nerve; and
structures in the temporal bone, auricle, and scalp.

Superior thyroid artery

Supply Thyroid gland, infrahyoid muscles and SCM

superior laryngeal artery

Supply larynx

Lingual artery

Supply: posterior tongue

deep lingual and sublingual arteries.

Facial artery

Supple: submandibular gland

ascending palatine artery and a tonsillar artery, submental artery
