Paulo Case Scenario

Education Goal

Work on articulation when speaking to others

Related service he would need is speech therapy.

An activity that can be done to help his speech would be to go through flash cards of fun things Paulo likes to do and work on pronouncing them correctly.

Employment Goal

The goal would be to learn how to bag groceries in proper way.

A related service to help reach this goal would be some vocational training, so Paulo would get all the training he needs to work at a grocery store (Halpern, 1985). The training will go in detail about all the skills he needs to learn to work as a bagger at a grocery store.

An activity to help Paulo with this goal he should have times in the classroom to set up a pretend store and bag groceries, but the teacher should guide him on different ways to bag the groceries. For example, make sure that he understands heavy items need to go on the bottom of the bag and not to put too many heavy items in one bag because it will break. Model this and then have him try with you then let him try on his own. Practice this for a half and hour every day and he will be able to master his goal when he goes to help at the grocery store.

Independent Living Goal

The goal would be for Paulo to work on living a healthy lifestyle, so when he is living with his sister he can live healthy without her worrying about always making sure he gets outside to be active or eats the wrong things.

A related service would be a program I found called Health Access for Independent Living (HAIL). This program teaches people with disabilities how important it is to take care of their health and many other ways on how to take care of their health (Summers & Nary, n.d.).

An activity to help Paulo reach his goal would to have him do a sorting game of healthy foods. Have different pictures of food on the table and two piles, one that says healthy foods and the other that says unhealthy foods and have him put the pictures in the correct pile. You can do the same with different activities pictures. For example, if you have a person sitting watching tv and one picture of someone playing outside he can sort those in healthy and unhealthy habits. Once he learns which ones are healthy and which ones are not he will be able to make they healthy choice in his life a little easier.
