There is no cognitive learning, students only repeat.

Writing and reading skills are weak in Audio Lingual Method.

Repetition can be boring and mindless for students.There should be cognitive learning.

Audio Lingual Method enable students to improve their listening and speaking skills.

Language laborataries were used very extensively in Audio Lingual Method.

The most important goal of the Audio Lingual Method is to make students able to use the target language automatically without thinking while speaking and listening.

Explicit grammar rules are not given. Learning is inductive according to the Audio Lingual Method.

It's essential to teach culture while teaching language.

It's learning theory based on the principles of Behoviorism.

Language learning is a habbit formation according to Behoviorism theory and Students should overlearn sentences. Positive and negative reinforcement should be given to students to achieve learning.

As can be seen, Audio Lingual Method's goals are not sufficient for effective language learning as for it is focused on only speaking and listening skills. Reading and writing skills can also be improved during learning process. Another essential issue is that there should be cognitive learning, repeating is not enough and it can be boring for students. Language laboratories are not normal for learning language , there should be interaction during learning process.On the other hand, ALM may be useful for learners who want to learn language only to speak and listen, they may save their time. Real dialogues may be effective and interesting for learners.
