Ch. 5: Integers and Number Theory

Clock and Modular Arithmetic

My First Activity facilitation was done on the Clock Arithmetic. I worked with two others on the project.

Greatest Common Factor and Least Common Multiple
Prime and Composite Numbers
Determining if Prime
Prime factorization
Divisibility
Divisibility Tests
Multiplication and Division of Integers
Order of Operations
Addition and Subtraction of Integers
Absolute Value
Number line Model
Chip Model

Ch. 6: Rational Numbers as Fractions

Addition and Subtraction of Rational Numbers
Set of Rational Numbers
Ordering Rational Numbers
Simplifying Fractions
Equal Fractions

Ch. 1: Problem Solving

Patterns
Fibonacci Sequence
Arithmetic Sequences
Geometric Sequences
Four Step Problem-Solving Process

This section was very important to me. I learned how to disect word problems in ways that will help me figure out how to solve them. While going through the section, I learned that it is easy to misinterpret a problem. That is why it is important to read and understand the problem.

Ch. 4: Algebraic Thinking

Functions
Functions as equations
Function as machines
Equations
Variables

Ch. 3: Whole Number Operations

Learning how to do base block algorithms help to understand operations for different bases. I heavily relied on the base blocks.

Mental Math and Estimation
Algorithms for Multiplication and Division
Multiplication and Division of Whole Numbers
Algorithms for Addition and Subtraction

The most interesting algorithm I used was the Lattice Algorithm for addition. I never learned this in elementary school.

Addition and Subtraction of Whole Numbers

Ch. 2: Numeration and System Sets

Set Operations and Properties
Describing Sets
Numeration Systems
Different Bases

By looking at other bases, I really started to understand why we "carry the one" and borrow.
