A parent complains about their son getting G on learning skills; how would I react?

My way of evaluation

Choosing specific projects and group works to use for assessing learning goal

Having an assessment chart for all my students, to be able to evaluate throughout all classes

These charts help me keep track of

observations

conversation

product

Asking for self-evaluation of their own learning skills on many group work assignments and at the end of each marking period

If I am missing skills, I have specific charts to target specific skills that I am missing for specific students

This grade was not given on a whim

I had been evaluating this skills all year, reviewing

his reflections

work handed in

evaluations of him in class and with peers

What I believe can be improved by the end of the term

I take consideration of the grades I give

These grades are important to me, as what we pay attention to, grows

these grades help me plan to improve these skills

there is amazing potential and I know that we all need a little room to grow.

Next steps for child

engage in lessons

take on a leadership roll in class

be more confident when working in group work

takes on challenges

Research topics of interest

Help peers with work

take on equal responsibility in group projects

Identifying that G is still a great mark for learning skills

A G is not a bad grade on learning skills, it just means there is still a few things that can be improved upon

Your sons grade is in no way a reflection on your parenting

I understand that learning skills are important to all parents and students, but the grades being given on these learning skills is to not insinuate that people are bad parents or bad students. instead I want parents to be aware of students current abilities and the possible ways they can improve on their current skills

Being a captain in a sport he loves does not mean he will act the same way in classes.

Although their son is exceptional in sports and takes on a leadership role these skills are not as prominent in the classroom.

Not to say that his learning in the classroom is poor, I have seen the ability he can achieve in areas such as sports, and I know he can improve on these learning skills in a different area of his life.

Although the coach says he deserves a E in my classes I teach, as he has seen your son in his area of coaching, He has a different perspective on your son. For him he gets to see your son in his element, in which he is motivated and excited to be there. Not everyone acts the same in every environment

Of course you are going to be more invested in a hobby or sport that you love to do. You will be more motivated to be the best and to invest everything you can.
