The poet Rupi Kaur has inspired the ideas behind my culminating project. She's written two books called, "The Sun & Her Flowers" and "Milk & Honey". She is famous for sharing her personal experiences, and showing the readers the dark side of her life. Rupi inspires me, because she is very open about who she is, and is creative with how she portrays her thoughts and emotions. I want to try to create my open illustrations for the poems she has writing. Rupi Kaur is #1 New York times bestselling author and illustrator, who has a degree in rhetoric studies. Her first novel sold well over a million copies every week for over a year! She incorporates the ideas of love, loss, trauma, healing etc throughout her work, which allows it to relate to many people across the world.

Overall Idea

I am going to create 5 pages that include a poem written by Rupi Kaur, and a digital illustration that represents the main message behind the writing. I'm going to visually represent this in a hard cover sketch book, on 11 x 17 pages. When choosing the poems, I'm going include the ones I believe relate to me most, and i can reflect on. This will allow it to be more personal to me, and get the viewers more involved and connected.
