Earth's Four Systems!
Hydrosphere
Our "Little Blue World"
all the waters on the earth's surface, such as lakes and seas, and sometimes including water over the earth's surface, such as clouds
What is the hydrologic system?
Water in the ocean evaporates, water is then stored in the clouds, when the clouds get full precipitation happens, precipitation fills all of our oceans, lakes, and ponds. This cycle repeats and remains constant.
There are 5 oceans, 165 major lakes, and 117,000,000,000 lakes in the world.
All of these play a part in the hydrologic cycle.
Atmosphere
The atmosphere is the air that surrounds the Earth. We live at the bottom of a 'sea of air'. The higher you go in the atmosphere, the less air molecules there are in the 'sea of air
Planes fly in our atmosphere!
The Atmosphere is our "big blanket"
Means that it protects and insulates heat within our planet(Greenhouse Effect), and keeps the temp steady between day & night.
There are 5 layers in our Atmosphere
Exosphere, Thermosphere, Mesosphere, Stratosphere, and Troposhere.
In this system you learn a lot about weather!
What are different weather types?
Rainy, Stormy, Sunny, and Snowy
Biosphere
Contains and supports all living things
Makes the seasons change!
Earth is the only known Biosphere!
All microbes, plants, animals, and humans live here
Lithosphere
The rigid outer part of the earth, and the crust and upper mantle
"Litho" means rock!
The lithosphere is the location where all earthquakes on earth occur, because an earthquake occurs when tectonic plates shift or collide.
The lithosphere's main plates include the African Plate, the Antarctic Plate, the Eurasian Plate, the Indo-Australian Plate, the North American Plate, the South American Plate, and the Pacific Plate.
It is from the lithosphere that we are able to obtain natural resources such as coal, fuels, and metals. It is also important for plants, and their growth.
