Hitler and the Nazi Party appealed to people's worries, annoyances, and hopes in order to gain widespread support by offering straightforward solutions to Germany's issues.
DEFINITION: Cause is driven by multiple causes, and results in multiple consequences. These create a complex web of interrelated short-term and long term causes and consequences.

The way Hitler was abused as a child really played a role in his causes. When Hitler was deployed in October 1914 to Belgium, he abused a dog that didn't listen to him, and the dog later died due to a huge bomb explosion. Hitler was inflicting his pain on the dog because of how his dad used to abuse him .
DEFINITION: The causes that lead to a particular historical event vary in their influence, with some being more important than others.

(1) Hindenburg appointed Hitler as chancellor after the parliamentary elections of July and November 1932 had not resulted in the formation of a majority government. (2) Adolf Hitler had a predominate ambition for territorial expansion that was motivated by his desire to reunite the German people. He was preoccupied with the belief that the "pure" German race was superior and had a superior desire for superiority. Hitler's girlfriend dyed her hair blonde to look more "German" to please him.
DEFINITION: Events result from the interplay of two types of factors: (1) historical actors, who are people (individuals and groups) who take actions that cause historical events, and (2) the social, political, economic, and cultural conditions within which the actors operate.

We could have prevented World War II if the nations had agreed to sign the 14 points rather than the Treaty of Versailles. Germany would have felt less animosity as a result, and the Great Depression's destruction would have been lessened. It might have also enabled closer supervision of Hitler.
DEFINITION: The events of history were not inevitable, any more than those of the future are. Alter a single action or condition, and an event might have turned out differently.

Hitler demanded the Chancellorship as a result of his Nazi Party receiving 37.4% of the vote. Hitler felt humiliated by Hindenburg's refusal. Hitler was given a lecture by Hindenburg about his lack of commitment to duty after choosing to refuse the less-powerful office of Vice Chancellor. Hindenburg was surprised by Hitler's rise of power, either Hindenburg supported Hitler or served as his puppet. Hindenburg lacked the stamina and conviction necessary to effectively counter Hitler's rise to power.
DEFINITION: Historical actors cannot always predict the effect of conditions, opposing actions, and unforeseen reactions. These have the effect of generating unintended consequences.
