Newton's Laws
Why do objects at a constant velocity remain at that velocity?
An example of this would be if a car is moving at a steady 60 mph and it gets hit by another car it would change completely what it is doing. If it wasn’t hit it would keep moving at 60 mph.
If you are in a car and you slam on the brakes your body will keep moving at the speed the car was moving and it will fly forward, that it why your seat belt is there. Your body keeps moving because of inertia, even though the car has changed you are not directly attached to the car so you continue to move.
If there is nothing acting on that object then nothing would change about it.
If the forces acting on an object cancel out there is no change in the object’s motion. An example would be if two people are pushing on a box on opposite sides with the same force the box wouldn’t move.
In which direction will an object move if acted on by multiple forces?
An example would be if one person was pushing on a box with 50 N and another person was on the opposite side pushing with 100 N the person with 100 N will have the greater force and be able to push the box in the direction of the other person.
Another example would be if two people are pushing on a box on opposite sides with 100 N each the box will not move at all because the forces are the exact same.
An example of F = ma would be a kid pushing a box that has a mass of 50 kg of force and the box is accelerating at 5 m/s you would take the mass 50 kg times the 5 m/s to find the force which is 250 N.
There is a direct relationship between force and acceleration, as force increases, acceleration increases. As force decreases, acceleration decreases.
How can two objects of different sizes exert the same amount of force on each other?
When there is acting between two objects they will feel the same amount of force.
An example would be if you pushed yourself off a skateboard your body would move fast off of it and the skateboard would fly backwards the opposite direction. Your momentum moving off the skateboard would be the same momentum that the skateboard has when it flies in the other direction.
Another example would be if you and another person were on skateboards and you had your hands touching but you then both pushed off of each other you would both go backwards on the skateboards.
When you kick a soccer ball you would feel the balls force against your foot when you kick it. The ball feels the force of your foot hitting it.
