They live in New York, on Sixty-second Street, in a six-story house. The place was bleak and received few visits

Mrs. Foster did not wish to end her days where she could not be near grandchildren
In the years of marriage it seemed that Mr. Foster was delaying with the sole purpose of intensifying his wife's suffering.
Mrs. Foster liked her daughter very much and, above all, she had the desire to meet her three grandchildren who were in Paris.
Mr. Foster was a businessman who for no reason planned to leave New York City
Mrs. Foster and her fear that it was almost a disease
Only the thought of being late to anything generated an unease

Mrs. Foster's trip alone to Paris

She was afraid of losing her fligh

Mr. Foster's attitude was so soft

She almost lost the flight, but due to bad weather conditions at the airport they decided to reschedule the flight

He wants to prevent Mrs.'s trip to France

She doesn't help him when he needs it and goes to Paris for six weeks

When she returns from Paris, she asks for help because the elevator was granted (she knew that Mr. Foster was there)

It was hard not to believe that he sought to inflict a small personal torture on the poor lady.
