Intro to Geometric Figures

r

The goal of this map is to give teachers an outline with resources for planning and teaching a unit about Introduction to Geometric Figures.

Figures in the Plane

r

The most basic shapes of Geometry are points, lines, segments, rays, and angles. This branch is the foundation for the rest of the unit. Although this is basic information, it can be customized to fit curriculum from Kindergarten to University. The video lesson is cleverly constructed and will keep all the Yale Geometry snobs entertained.

Curves and Polygons in the Plane

r

Any kid who scribbles knows a curve. This branch takes it a step further by providing resources about how these scribbles interact in the plane. Polygons appear in this branch with beautiful artwork and children teaching about regular versus irregular. The triangle rap video is super simple but can entertain a wide range of students with it's beat and engaging physical instructions. You can't teach curves without showing students a video of a skateboarder on a half-pipe.

This branch gets a little heavy with formulas, definitions, and equations. Fear not Kindergarten teachers: grab some blocks, cylinders, and cones to teach the topics of this branch. Word on the street is that Euler's favorite flavor to put in an ice cream cone was bubble gum. There is some complex artwork using polyhedra.
