New Membership Process
Challenge
Altar Workers - having a lot to deal with in a short amount of time 9church background)
Pastor - having to make a 30 second decision on whether or not to read someone into membership
Doctrinal Purity - With blended denominational ties these days it is difficult to make a decision based upon limited or no knowledge about the prior church
Uncommitted Members - we have a challenge with members joining and either not showing up or never getting plugged in
Clean Up Work - We have joined members using our current method who according to our By-laws are not technically members. We have had to go back to them and try to explain why they are not members.
Proposal
To take the burden off the altar workers and the pastoral staff by removing the decision process from Sunday Morning
Those that come forward could be read as "candidates for membership" and that they will be attending the next Membership Class
All potential members would be required to attend a one time membership class where they will be taught expectations of membership, strategy of the church, and what is required for membership.
The pastoral staff and Membership Class Host Team will have adequate time to walk them through salvation, baptism, and prior church background
Outcomes
We have more informed church members about the mission, values, and strategy of our church
It may appear overtime that we have less members joining over the course of a year, but the hope is that we will have a better quality member and have better maintained doctrinal purity
