Scientific Method project
What makes a good question?
Resources- SM Slideshow page 7
Claim
You have to ask the question
Evidence
1. A good scientific question is one that can have an answer and be tested. For example: “Why is that a star?” is not as good as “What are stars made of?”
2. A good scientific question can be tested by some experiment of measurement that you can do. For example: “Where does the Sun come from? is not as good as “How will human skin react to solar radiation where one participant is covered in SPF 30 sunscreen lotion and the other participant is not covered in sunscreen lotion.
3. A good scientific question builds on what you already know. For example: “Will fertilizer make grass grow greener?” is not as good as “What types of fertilizer will make grass grow greener?”
4. A good scientific question, when answered, leads to other good questions. For example: “What is the flu” does not lead to as many questions as “How does the flu attack the human immune system?
Connections- walking, running, jumping, phone, cards, telephones
Vocab- Observation
What happens when an experiment doesn’t lead to a hypothesis being supported?
Subtopic
Resources- SM slideshow page 9,10,11
Claim- Just try and try again until you get it
Evidence
1. Keep trying
2. Repeat it over and over
3. Give it to someone else to try it
Subtopic
Connections- How you braid hair
Vocab-
Independent
Dependent
Constant
Control
How can data collection be more accurate?
Subtopic
Resources- SM slideshow 5
Claim- Make an observation
Evidence
Make an observation
A good observation:
Uses as many of the senses as possible
Can lead into a question and experiment
Observations will also be used throughout the scientific method process to gather information.
Connections- You need a recipe for what you want to cook that is your data
Vocab- Observation
Why is it important to know the metric system?
Subtopic
Claim- Because it has to do with numbers
Evidence
Because every single country uses it
The Metric System is a measurement system which uses Standard International Units. It is simple to learn and easy to use because of its decimal nature.
We use the metric system every day almost
Connections- like if you are in math you might use the metric system
Vocab- decimals
