Matt Rhodes

Matt Rhodes is a Canadian concept artist. Most of his personal art is fantasy or pop culture related. Matt has a unique style of conceptual art, usually taking a more cartoon like approach to his artwork. This gives his art character and differentiates it from that of other concept artists. Many of his illustrations use bright, vivid colours and dramatic lighting.

Matt

is an Art Director at Bioware in Edmonton, a video game development

company. He started there as an intern in 2004 and has worked on numerous

different projects such as Jade Empire, Dragan Age 2, Dragon Age Inquisition,

the Mass Effect Trilogy and Jade Empire. He is an alumnus of The Alberta

College of Art and Design.

Recently, Matt

has been working on his personal project "Tellurion", where he is

attempting to tell a complete story completely through visuals without any text

or description. To date he has 170 individual panels in this series.

Matt Rhodes has very quickly become one of my favourite illustrators.

His use of colour and light is amazing, the expression he brings out of hos characters is great and his storytelling is fantastic. Before I discovered his art, I had never even thought of an illustrated story with no text. It’s an interesting and original idea, and he seems to have a lot of fun with it.  He’s the type of artist that I actively wait until he posts more work.

Aaron Griffin

Aaron Griffin is a self-taught Illustrator and concept artist living in London, UK. Aaron has been working in the games industry for the past 3 years and is currently working at Gamesys Studios, as well as freelancing on the side. Aaron’s work is normally characterized by expressive brushstrokes and colours, but doesn’t shy away from grayscale painting and graphite and ink. He frequently paints portraits and studies of the human anatomy, among landscapes and his concepts. As well as his conceptual art, Aaron is very well known for his high realism. He is always striving for perfection in his artwork.

Aaron also has a youtube channel where he shares his processes and speed paints.  I absolutely love Aaron's style. the movement and character he gets out of his interesting brushstrokes is amazing,, and his colour schemes are always fantastic. I feel a lot of his work Inspires wonder, and it constantly makes me ask myself how he achieved this caliber of art. Wonder aside, Aaron's high realism also astounds me. Be it black and white, or in colour, he perfectly illustrates his subjects. It took me almost 5 minutes to realize that the painting of Natalie Portman was a painting, and not a photograph. The fact that Aaron is a self-taught artist also amazes me. Its cool to think that he had the discipline to practice this hard to get this good.
