Types of business
Various types of businesses serve different purposes and operate under diverse models. Service businesses provide expert work for clients, such as accounting, banking, and education.
A nonprofit organization uses its surplus revenues to further achieve its purpose or mission, rather than distributing its surplus income to the organization's shareholders as profit or dividends. This is known as the non-distribution constraint.
A few great examples are United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Human Rights Watch (HRW), Museum of Modern Art, American Red Cross and World Wildlife Fund.
Manufacturing
A manufacturing business is any business that uses components, parts or raw materials to make a finished good. These finished goods can be sold directly to consumers or to other manufacturing businesses that use them for making a different product.
Some good examples are General Motors Corporation, General Electric, Procter & Gamble, General Dynamics, Boeing, Pfizer, and Precision Castparts.
Merchandising
Merchandisers is one of the most common types of businesses we interact with daily. It is a business that purchases finished products and resells them to consumers.
Some examples are Wal-Mart, Target, Dillard's, Macy's, JCPenney, Kohl's, Michaels Crafts, Lowe's, Home Depot, and Toys R Us.
E-commerce
E-commerce is a type of business model, or segment of a larger business model, that enables a firm or individual to conduct business over an electronic network, typically the internet.

Service
A commercial enterprise that provides work performed in an expert manner by an individual or team for the benefit of its customers.
Some examples are accounting, banking, consulting, cleaning, landscaping, education, insurance, treatment, and transportation services.
