A VRC for your context

How do you think the centre would benefit my Ss?

Jeimy: Providing new learning appotunities, collaborative moments and learning beyond the classroom.

Leo: Students will have the opportunity to explore content by themselves, guiding them to the easies paths.

Angie - the learners at my school (particularly the girls in 4th grade- received individualized instruction since it was a short group from the beginning. Right now it is hard for them to get used to following instructions without 100% guidance from the teacher. The center would be an excellent opportunity for them to realize that they can actually work without so much guidance as they expect.

Cindy: Very young learners would benefit in terms of autonomy. From an early age they would be able to access and compare information from different sources, to practice their language and content skills on their own and to share their ideas in a collaborative envronment.

Lina: Students will develop different skills: researching, technical skills and new literacies: scientific, digital, critical, etc

What would be the mission of my centre?

Jeimy: To provide learning opportunities and opportunities to use the language.

Angier -To provide learning opportunities in which learners can connect reali-life situations to the topics seen in class. One of the goals of my school is for the community to learn through these problems or situations.

Cindy: To develop the culture of autonomous learning supported on colaboration.

Lina: To become students aware of different global situations meanwhile they improve their communicative skills in L2.

What would be my objectives as a teacher?

Leo: To guide my students to use elements that help them according to their needs.

Angie - To provide learners with tools to advance in their learning while gaining skills to become more autonomous.

Cindy: Facilitate and support the learning process by providing students strategies to develop autonomy.

Jeimy: To support, guide and learn together with my students.

Who are my Ss? (cognitive, non cognitive, language learning skills)

c2

Leo: Young learners need help to realize what their role is in their own process.

Leo: My students need imput to realize what their likes and dislikes are.

Jeimy: high school students who need more lenguage learning opportunities and increase their confidence and autonomy.

Cindy: Very young learners in the process of acquiring L1 and L2. Active, spontaneous, curious.

What components would the centre have? ( (help desk, resources, etc)

Jeimy: My students, technological tools, diverse learning opportunities and possibilities, contextualized learning.

Leo: A space to know students perspective or doubts about the content presented.

Angie - collaboration, feedback - interaction

Leo: A space where students can find a diverse of resources to practice about specific content.

Cindy: Collaboration section as feedback and comments sectiosn, an objectives section.

Leo: Feedback spaces where students can visualize how they are doing with activities proposed.

What inconvenients do you think the students may have using the centre?

What ideas may help overcome them?

Leo: Students need training to realize what elements they can find and how to interact with them.

Leo: Students cannot understand the main purpose of the center.

Angie - while getting familiar with the VRC they might need extra help.

Cindy: Lack of strategies to deal with the resources. There is a risk that learners decrease their motivation levels because of the feeling of being overwhelmed of an excessive exposure to information.

A way to face this issue is preparing learners by stating precise goals before accessing to the VRC.

Jeimy: use of language and motivation.

Jeimy: engage them through activities and topics (select them together) - Encourage them to use the language.

What challenges do you think you will face while designing the centre?

What ideas may help overcome them?

Angie - since the VC would be somewhat new, it would have to be very interesting so that it guarantees Learner's engagement. I think that it's important to help Ss realize that it wouldn't be a task for the teacher, but a way to generate their own reflections, see their process and present their product to others.

Cindy: That the VRC becomes a teacher-centered space rather than a student-centered model.

Jeimy:
