Everyone living in a democracy has rights such as freedom of opinion and expression, freedom of religion, and the right to organize and take part in peaceful protests. Race and genders are valued equally.

Freedom of Speech - the Right to speak out against the government. The Russian citizens who don't agree with the war are speaking out but they are doing this fear fully, they shouldn't have to be afraid of speaking out against their government.

A union is a group of workers who join together to protect their rights and interests. Sometimes they have to negotiate with their bosses for what they want.

Adult citizens have the right to vote whoever they want with no obstacles and no threats and there are elections every five years or less.

Student Vote is......It helps us with/relates to free and fair elections because

1870 women started campaigns to vote: the women campaigned were called suffragettes.1916 in Manitoba was the first province to give women the right to vote.1918 all provinces gave women the right to vote.Suffrage is the right to vote

There were 15 candidates for mayor, and many choices is a sign of a healthy democracy.

A two party system is not a sign of a healthy democracy. Democracy needs many choices and many voices.

Elected representatives are accountable for their actions. They must do their duties according to the people they represent and not for themselves.

Two canadian mining executives were convicted of involuntary manslaughter ... this illustrates accountability because they were held responsible for their actions ( not making the mines safe enough) by Canadian Law. This is also Transparency because the news media (cbc news) made it so citizens can see what happened.

Media Literacy (being able to tell information that is useful and true to base a decision on) is important in order to be an informed citizen in a democracy. Media Literacy is important for the Accountability and Transparency democratic principle because it allows for people to understand the messages being given to them. With so many information sources available today, media literacy can help people in spotting trustworthy sources.

Iranian women jailed for not wearing hijab and has died in her cell. People say she died due to the police and others say she died from a heart attack and it was a coincidence.

Opposition parties are responsible for keeping the government accountable by asking questions in the house of commons in question period. The MoC opened today after summer break with a new opposition leader - Pierre Poilievre.

Trudeau and Poilievre debate in the house of Commons. Some of the topics were: Cost of living, Inflation, Carbon Tax, government spending + debt, child benefits + childcare, tax on middle class.

Laws

The right to strike is protected by the Constitution.  The Notwithstanding allows the government to go above the Constitution.  This means they are going above the law- this goes against the Rule Of Law Democratic Principle.Education workers (EAs) are barely making a living wage and they do a very difficult and important job…. They are barely above the poverty level.
