Loraine Hansberry

Born on May 19th, 1930, Lorraine Hansberry was a successful playwright and write. She wrote about injustice and won many awards before passing away on January 12th, 1965.

She grew up in Chicago and he father was a successful
real estate broker, while her mom was a school teacher. Her
family donated a lot of money and at 8 years old her family moved into a white neighborhood where her family was attacked and harassed by her neighbors. This led to her desire to write about injustices in the world.

Hansberry was the first Black playwright and youngest Americans to win a New York's Critics' Circle award.

She was the first black woman to have a play produced on Broadway.

She died on pancreatic cancer
