Math Happy! Learning how to Teach Elementary Mathematics! By: Megan Hickey MTE 280

Are you having math anxiety? Does learning math cause you to stress out? No worries follow these steps to help ease the stress of the unknown!

First explore the topic

look through the new chapter

skim through the content of the chapter!

Take a few notes of the information

Watch a few video examples

Try out a homework problem

If you get confused about how to solve the homework then re-watch a video. Try out the steps of the math solving process, taking care to pause the video when you need to.

Still stressed? Take 5-10 minutes and watch a fun video about puppies, or do something for 5 minutes that has nothing to do with math. Maybe its cleaning up your dishes from this morning! Came back and try again! see you in 5 or 10 minutes

What are Base 10 blocks?

Base ten blocks are teaching tools that help students learn about the base ten exchange system, and place value.

Working with other Base numbers: Any number 1,2,3,4,5, etc. can form a sequence of numbers, and have rules for place value just like the "Base Ten System," we use today.

Building on the base 10 system understanding, here are some other properties of math to know.

Closure property:The Closure Property states that when you perform an operation (such as addition, multiplication, etc.) on any two numbers in a set, the result of the computation is another number in the same set .

Commutative property: The word "commutative" comes from "commute" or "move around", so the Commutative Property is the one that refers to moving stuff around. For addition, the rule is "a + b = b + a"; in numbers, this means 2 + 3 = 3 + 2. For multiplication, the rule is "ab = ba"; in numbers, this means 2×3 = 3×2.

Associative property: watch this videos

Identity Property: watch this video
