PREFIXES AND SUFFIXES

A suffix is a letter or group of letters that are added to the end of a word and that form a new word.

The suffix causes a spelling change in the original word. In the table above, the -e ending of complicate and create disappears when the suffix -ion is added

Beaut y , dut y + -ful → beaut i ful, dut i ful ( -y cambia a i )

Heav y , de lectura y + -ness → Heav i Ness, leer i Ness (- Y cambios en i )

Prefixes that allow us to form antonyms, that is, the opposite meaning of a word. Although most of these prefixes can modify nouns, adverbs and even verbs, we will focus on adjectives.

Anti– significa opuesto o contra

Antibody: anticuerpo

Antibacterial: antibacteriano

Antiallergic: antialérgico

Anti-inflammatory: antiinflamatorio
