Origin-Dates

Originally, the core curriculum was aimed towards the focus of Western Civilization. In the second half of the 20th century, the United States Universities began to transition to a core that focused more on electives. This was due to social activism.
Core Curriculum was first developed in 1919 by Columbia College. Columblia Colleges first concept of a Core Curriculum became the major framework for many other universities in the united States.

Purpose

The purpose of a Core Curriculum is to provide a college student with required courses that will assist them in the preperation towards a degree.

By the year 1999, every degree in Texas required a General Education Core Curriculum.
