Turbines which are placed under the shore that harnesses the power of the tides. Tidal energy is 100% renewable.
Disadvantages:
Quite expensive
Needs to be near the shoreline
Disadvantages:
There isn't always wind
Uses a lot of space
Flying animals crash and die
expensive
delicate
Disadvantages:
Destroys habitats by building dams.
resevoirs can drown humans and animals, as well as destroying buildings.
Dams'
Disadvantages:
Produces greenhouse gases
can lead to deforestation
Environmental impacts:
Hard to recycle panels
Lithium batteries (difficult to obtain lithium)
Solar panels die out after a while
Inefficiency
Burns fossil fuels to make steam to turn turbines to make electricity.
Disadvantages:
Pollutes and creates lots of greenhouse gases.
Non-Renewable.
Fusing hydrogen and oxygen together releases electrical energy.
The average tv lifespan is 10 years.
The average PC lifespan is 7 years.
The average Console lifespan is 5 years.
At first, the Coke bottles were returnable. However, they switched to plastic bottles because it is more profitable. 10 states in the USA have a deposit system. 85% of these bottles get deposited.
Many harmful chemicals such as lead, which harms the bervous system. over 70% of electronics dissapears unaccounted for.
A landfill is a big hole where people dump their garbage. A big problem about landfills is the leachate they create. Leachate is water mixed with some dangerous chemicals.
Another problem is how much room it takes, as well as how expensive it is to make, due to the pipes.
Our landfill in Ottawa i s going to fill up before we can build a new one. it's an urgent situation. Trail Road City has only 9 years if the landill isn't properly disposed of.
40 percent of food in the US is wasted.
over two hundred tons of food is wasted per year.
2.7 gallons of water is waste dper year due to leakage.
One third of electricity is wasted and converted into heat.
22 quadrillion BTU is lost per year.
Phantom power is when an appliance consumes electricity, even when it is turned off.
Environmental/recource Sustainability is using resources in a way that doesn't harm future generations.
Burning forewts for electricity ruins habitat and releases a lot of CO2 into the air.
Loss of habitat
Water levels rise
Natural disasters (floods, forest fires, etc.)
Threat to humanity
Water vapor, carbon dioxide, Ozone, Methane, Nitrous oxide, and "chlorofluorocarbons".
Greenhouse gases are gases that rise up into the atmosphere and contribute heavily to the greenhouse effect. Examples of GHGs are water vapor, Co2, methane, and ozone.
When heat enters Earth's atmosphere, some escapes, but the atmosphere traps most heat to support life. When more chemicals which humans make go into the atmosphere, less and less heat escapes, heating up the earth.
Biodiversity is important because it ensures a healthy and sustainable ecosystem.
Rays and Sharks have declined 71 percent in the last year.
Wildlife population worldwide has plummeted by 69 percent over the last year. Coral reefs give protection from waves, almost 95 percent. We have lost 70 - 90 percent of all the coral worldwide. We now only have around 1 percent of our coral reefs now. Earth has warmed up 2 degrees. Pollution kills of animals of all kinds and destroys many ecosystems. The main causes for biodiversity loos are pollution, invasive species, climate change, direct exploitation of organisms, and changing of sea and land.
