Fiesta 1980

The kids and mami wanted freedom from the abusing and cheating on mami but they were scared of what would happened.
The whole family is broken also Yunior saw that his mother was being cheated on and how he gets abused and can't eat before going on car rides.
They kind of lost their heritage because mami moved to United States and the kids were raised there and at their family party they show their heritage with the dancing and music.
They have the responsibility of listening to papi and Yunior's responsibility was not to eat right before car rides.
The family was dysfunctional because papi use to cheat on mami and abuse the kids and it was always papi's way with everything they did.

The Namesake

The father passed away and had a big impact on the family which led them to be who they needed to be.
It is a big thing for the mother and she only wants the best for the kids.
Their destiny was to make each other happy/proud as a family.
She had freedom when she moved making her kids have a lot of freedom growing up.
She got married off and moved to United States for a better life in the future for the kids.

Why Do We Hate Love

Losing self/Hurt
People tend to fake the sense of hurt safety and security which cause them to be defense from being hurt as a child.
Due to childhood trauma contact love turned out scary and painful.
Love/Relationship
Due to love, you find kindness, affection, companionship and etc. as a human for human needs.

Maslow's Hierarchy

Falls into the self-actualization because a human needs to reach full potential.
You need belonging and love needs which family falls into, in the triangle of needs to build yourself.
Death/loss
Due to belonging and love needs if the death of a family happen you lose some belonging needs.
There is five levels of a human needs and they need to be respected and to take care of their biological and physiological needs.

Mother Tongue

Chinese was their language and they grew into speaking english but in their own way that they understand.
The family was close and grew together with their language which ended up showing others who they are.
To show people their language is the way of showing what or who their background is.
She lost her dad & her brother due to a brain tumor they had.
The language that they speak is a big part of who they are.

El Olvido

Her dead relatives would be disappointed in her and she is scared to die alone.
To never forget her mother and father plus where she grew up.
For her moving and never forget her background because it is dangerous.
Her climate of her birthplace defined her because the place she grew up.

One Art

She is hurting a lot thinking about what she lost in her hometown and all the lost in her relationships with death.
Love
She thinks about her loved one and how sad it was to lose her.
Her mother and loved one passed away and she thinks about it a lot.
She lost her mother which she thinks about a lot.
She lost her past of when she use to live and all of the memories.

Dead End

Death
Maria's mother passed and Maria wanted to make her proud.
She takes care of her family because the dad left them to take care of themselves.
Maria doesn't break the promise she has with her mother and wants to be there for her family.
Freedom
Maria wanted to have her freedom with Frankie and the gang.
Maria's responsibility was to take care of her family and study in school to be something to make her mother happy.

Coco

Their family owned shoe shop & the music from Miguel's grandfather was brought into the family.
Language
Their background of them and the music they fell in love with is Spanish, it shows who they are.
A big meaning, the family was close and grew together through it all.
Miguel's wants to play music even through his family hated it due to the grandfather leaving.
They celebrate dia de los muertos (day of the dead) to remember all his family especially his grandfather.

Fences

Hurt
Throughout the story, Troy ended up hurting the relationship with his family (son, wife, best friend, and brother) in many of his actions.
Inheritance
Cory inheritance a sport just like his father which caused them to have a disagreement due to the racism.
Death/Loss
The death of Troy broke a lot of family up and also held a couple of them together.
Choice/Destiny
Troy had the destiny to be a pro baseball player and Cory wanted to play football to/and go to college.
Family
In the story there is a lot of family drama going on. The family dysfunction between Troy struggling to be a father role to Cory and a husband role to Rose.
Responsibility
Troy has the responsibility to take care of his son Cory due to him not being the best father rode to him.
