Ended up having 10 states vote for him
Tied with Aaron Burr, was counting on the House of Reps to help him win
Jefferson and Adams were running against eachother
Adams- Federalist
Jefferson- Democratic Republican

The embargo act(Britannica)

It effected American Farmers and merchants negativley but gave French and British dealers a chance to raise their prices
This violated international law leading Thomas Jefferson to get involved and create The Embargo Act
Embargo Act- Closed all U.S. ports and restricted imports from England
Napoleon brought the U.S into this case by using American vessels in French ports, after England put a blockade on Napoleonic Europe
France and England were fighting and Napoleon prohibited British trade

Not really being able to do anything about the situation at that time, Jefferson pushed for new economic pressure with England
Ratford refused and after injuring and killing passnagers they took their bodies and Ratfords as well
