To make comparisons you need

The two people, animals, or things you are comparing

e.g. Dogs _________________cats

The adjective in its comparative form

To transform an adjective into a comparative one, you need to take into account the following rules and exceptions:

One syllable adjectives

Regla normal: Se agrega "er" al final. e.g. Cool- CoolER

If the adjectives ends in consonant, vowel, consonant, add an extra consonant before adding "er" e.e. hot-hotter

If the adjective ends in e, only add "r" e.g. Cute-cuter

If the adjective ends in "Y" change the "y" into an "I" and add "er" E.g. Happy-Happier

Three syllable adjectives

They add "more" before and leave the adjective unchanged. E.g. Important--more important

Irregular adjectives

They have to be learned by heart, that's to say, they don't follow rules so you have mo memorize them. E.g. far-farther/ good-better/ bad-worse.

The word "than"

Dogs __________ THAN cats

Normally, the verb "to be"

Dogs ARE ________ than cats.

Dogs are bigger than cats/ Dogs are more affectionate than cats
