ENERGY IN THE PLANET

FORMS OF ENERGY

CHEMICAL ENERGY

It is stored in matter and then released when the matter changes its composition.

THERMAL ENERGY

It is produced by the movement of the particles that form the matter.

HEAT

It is energy transferred between two bodies, or two areas of the same body, that have different temperatures.

ELECTRIC ENERGY

It is produced by the movement of electric charges through conductive materials.

RADIANT ENERGY

They can travel through space- that is, they do not need matter to transport them.

SOUND ENERGY

It is the energy transported in sound waves.

NUCLEAR ENERGY

It is contained in the particles that make up matter, especially certain elements like uranium and plutonium.

PROPERTIES

ENERGY CAN TRANSFORM

All the energy can transform. Example: transform electric energy into sound energy.

ENERGY IS CONSERVED

When one type of energy transforms into another, the total amount of energy always stays the same.

ENERGY CAN BE STORED

It is the same as potential energy.

There are three tipes of potential energy:

Elastic potential energy

Gravitational potential energy

Potential chemical energy

ENERGY CAN TRANSFER AND DEGRADE

Energy is transfered when it moves from one body to another, and in doing so, it degrades or loses some of its quality.
