Supporting the Junior French Program

Goal: To work collaboratively with the French teachers to determine how to use the various areas of the Learning Commons to help create authentic learning experiences that cover various aspects of the 4 areas of the Junior French curriculum, while meeting the needs of all students, promoting critical thinking, questioning, collaboration, enjoyment and teaching technologies.

Visual Connection:

Post various posters in both French and English to encourage a French learning atmosphere.

Post labels of items/objects in library to reinforce the learning of new words.

Bulletin boards will be posted based on topic of study as well as provide a spot for students to post their thoughts and opinions of French books they have read, useful sites, etc. The bulletin can also be maintained by the students who post new learning as they go through a selected unit.

Create "thematic" displays of French books

Parental Support

Library webpage will provide various Parent friendly links to sites for further French language development/reinforcement

Questions/Contact link/twitter link will be provided for Parents who need further support- communication can occur between parents as well

Oral Reading/Listening:

Center area filled with French magazines, French books, pamphlets & menus from local places all in French.

Centers that provide audio books in French for students to listen to and follow along on the computer.

Game centers- where students can sit and practice their oral vocabulary in French by playing various board games such as “win lose or draw” en Français.

Learning buddies can come and read with students

Props and costume will be provided for role play

Writing

Computer/ipad/netbook access with links for tweeting, blogging, story writing and journal and free writing (based on the unit of study).
