Cultural Globalisation

Theory: World Culture Theory

Global culture is becoming uniform- the world has one culture (no individualisation and recognition of different)

Theory: World Culturalists

Emergence of a global cultures, which are then adapted to local conditions- does recognise difference but again, loses individual cultures

Theory: Hybridisation

Multiplying effect on culture as new cultures emerge in response to global conditions- e.g. colonisation

Theory: Global Village

People live in local geographical areas which are globally interconnected through networks and technology

Political Globalisation

Theory: Trans-formationalism

A thickening of global policy-making activity, especially for issues that extend beyond the nation state, increasingly aligned with globally-orientated agendas

Theory: Standardisation

Transformation of national and regional spaces, policies and outcomes to facilitate global movements.

Interdependence

Global agreement is sought on addressing issues that extend beyond the nation state

Economic Globalisation

Theory: Global capitalism

Tied to, and productive of, new economic forms

Theory: Neoliberalism

Advocating free and unregulated markets leading to TNC and outsourcing

Decentralisation and Privatisation

Disillusion of a single administrative centre in order to transfer social services from public to private ownership- postal service
