The process of conducting research involves four critical stages that guide students from the initial phase of investigation to the final presentation of their findings. Initially, students must determine the most effective methods for gathering necessary information, using tools like graphic organizers to keep track of their sources.
Creating - Students will need to decide
on the best way to present their findings.
Students may wan to use a journal to write about their
learning experience and make more connections to what
they already know.
Students should use some sort of self-assessment tool
to see if they are happy with their results.
Students could use a web 2.0 presentation to share
their findings.
Exploring -Students need figure out what topic they are interested in researching. They will then need to figure out what they already know about the topic.
Create success criteria with the students so they
have a clear idea of the expectations.
Work with students to make sure that the questions
they are asking are specific and will get them the
answers they are looking for.
Use a KWL chart to organize there previous knowledge
and decide on the focus of there research.
Processing - Students will then analyze the information they have found and decide which information is relevent.
Students must make sure that they have covered
all of the success criteria and that there information
will hlep them achieve their learning goal.
Students can create a compare and contrast chart to
list similarities and differences.
Students should make connections to what they
already know about similar topics.
Investigating - At this stage students Need to decide on the best methods to obtain the
information that they will need.
Provide students with books and websites that
will guide them to the answers they are looking for.
Use Graphic Organizers that will allow students
to keep track of the information they find.
