Roles of Women
Since women had to work and take care of everything in Canada when the men left for the World War, their role became much more important and valued at this time.
1930s
Homelessness
The 1930s were known as 'the Great Depression'. Homelessness became so common that around 30% of all Canadians became homeless. The government set up relief camps to aid the homeless, however their help was very limited and below expectations
Why?
Homelessness was so common due to inflation. The stock market had a huge crash and millions of investors closed down their companies, which gave less people the opportunities to get a job or to be able to support their families,
Women's Roles
Despite the fact that many women worked harder jobs than men during the 1930's while having the responsibility to take care of their homes, they where paid significantly less than men. Even though women's rights and roles had a higher status over the years, they still had less opportunities, and men were deemed more superior.
Employement
Job opportunities were very limited during the Great Depression, which made it hard for families to sustain their homes. Since people had many kids at that time, families were big and the food was limited. The government did not interfere with aiding Canadians at the time as much as they do today, so people struggled to live and some got evicted.

Africville (a city in Nova Scotia, Canada) was a refuge for freed black people from slavery which was in inhumane conditions. Despite the fact that the black people requested support from the government (running water, electricity, sewer systems, etc.), they got no support. Black citizens ended up being evicted from Africville.

Hitler
Even though Hitler made Germany one of the most powerful countries in the world, Germany eventually had its downfall when Hitler decided to send his army to fight against Russia. The Russians where strong and ready to fight, while the German army was tired and divided. They eventually got defeated and Hitler ordered his soldiers to kill him.
