DOMESTIC TCKs

Children whose parents have moved in or among various subcultures within that child’s home country.

EXAMPLE

Max is a kid who lived in New York State in Brooklyn, but a few weeks ago I had to move from the district to Manhattan.

INTERNATIONAL ADOPTEES

Children adopted by parents from another country other than the one of that child’s birth

EXAMPLE

Jane is a London girl who was adopted in Spain by some American parents

CHILDREN OF REFUGEES

Children whose parents are living outside their original country or place due to unchosen circumstances such as war, violence, famine, other natural disasters

EXAMPLE

Helen is a girl from Siberia and with her family because of the wars had to immigrate to Spain.

CHILDREN OF IMMIGRANTS

Children whose parents have made a permanent move to a new country where they were not originally citizens

EXAMPLE

Mary and her family lived in Austraila but decided to move permanently to California by changing nationality

CHILDREN OF MINORITIES

Children whose parents are from a racial or ethnic group which is not part of the majority race or ethnicity of the country in which they live.

EXAMPLE

Anaan lives in Ecuador with his parents, they are mulsumanes and to not lose their roots profess their religion

EDUCATIONAL CCKs

A child who moves between educational cultures such as from the eastern educational culture to the western educational culture or vice versa. In this category I also include students moving from living at home and attending the local school to living in the school boarding house and experiencing a new educational culture.

EXAMPLE

Diana was studying in a public school in Brooklyn and had to change to a private university to learn more

CHILDREN OF BORDERLANDERS

Children living on or near the border between two countries, perhaps living in one country and going to school in another country.

EXAMPLE

Amy is a girl from Texas who lives in Texas but has to study at University New Mexico

MIXED HERITAGE CHILDREN

Children in a multiracial family may have different racial identities from one another. Their racial identity is influenced by their individual physical features, family attachments and support, and experiences with racial groups.

EXAMPLE

Cole has a multiracial family since his mother's family is from Israel, and the father´s is from Ingaterra

Bi-MULTICULTURAL CHILDREN

Children born to parents from at least two cultures or races

EXAMPLE

Samir lives in California, United States, his mom is from India and his dad is American

TRADICIONAL THIRD CULTURE KIDS

Children who move into another culture with parents due to a parent’s career choice

EXAMPLE

Camila lived in Ecuador but had to move to Chile for her father's doctorate.

OTHER
