basketball.
My parents have always made it a
big deal to have no technology at
the table when we eat family
dinner. One time I wanted to watch
a new episode of a show but my
parents made me turn it off for
dinner. We got into a screaming
match and my mom started crying.
Looking back on that memory now,
I realize that she was sad because
of how special family dinners were
to her. Now, I never get on my
phone when I'm eating with a lot
of people because I realize how
fun it can be when everyone
unplugs and enjoys eachother's
company.
This memory is very important to
my autobiography memory
because it taught me the
importance of having
conversations around the table,
and how it brings everyone
together. When I'm older, I am
going to have the same rule with
my family.
Ever since I was little my parents
have always thrown parties on
fridays. My parents were always so
nice to everyone they met, and
made so many friends. Those
parties inspired me to be friendly
to everyone that I meet because
you can never have too many
friends.
When I was 10, my parents went
out for the night so I had to baby
sit my little brother. This was my
first time ever left alone to babysit
him, so I didn't know what to
expect. That night I was playing
video games when I heard a loud
crash followed by my little brother
crying. I ran downstairs to see all
the kitchen knives out and my
brother with a deep cut on his arm
laying on the floor. I quickly
grabbed a towel and wrapped it
tight around his arm and called my
parents. I took care of him until my
parents came home and brought
him to the hospital. Ever since
then, I am extremely protective
over my family and especially my
brother.
This experience was emotionally
intense which is why it's a very
important part of my
autobiography memory.
When I was little, my parents took
me to an Atlanta Hawks game and
I got picked to go on the court
while they were warming up. I had
never shot a basketball before so I
was struggling until Kyle Korver
came up to me. He took the ball
and told me "think about shooting,
like you’re putting your hand in a
cookie jar." I still use the advice he
gave me when I play basketball
today.
The advice kyle gave me encoded
into my brain, so now every time I
shoot a basketball, that is what my
thought process is drawn to.
Procedural Memory:
When I was in middle school, I
would often procrastinate and wait
until the last minute to turn in
work. In 8th grade, I waited until
the last minute to turn in a major
project and ended up not turning it
in on time and failing the class,
since I failed I had to stay back a
year and couldn't see my friends
anymore. I was devastated, but the
lesson I took from it is to always be
on top of work that I have and try
my best, in all facets of life.
Because of this past experience, I
make sure to always get work done
as efficiently as possible. Now I am
a harder worker and do
assignments right when I get them.
Prospective Memory:
When I was little, I was fascinated
with my grandpa's collection of
wood carvings. One day brought
me into his wood shop and taught
me how to carve into wood to
make designs. Me and my grandpa
have made carvings together every
summer since than and It has made
me a very art minded- creative
person.
The experience is the first time my
grandpa taught me how to carve
wood and it affected my life story
because now it is an important
hobby to me. This memory is also
an example of nostalgia because I
still feel happy when I carve, just
like I did back then.
