What is the relationship between displacement and motion?

Sources

Motion slides

An object is in motion if it changes position in relation to a certain place.
One dimensional motion is the simplest form of motion.
Takes place in one direction.
Similar to a train on a track. It can only move forward and back. It can’t move left, right, up, or down.

Connections

We did worksheets on it.

What is the relationship between Acceleration and velocity?

Sources

Motion Slides

Velocity - speed in a given direction.
Velocity - 10 m/s
You are riding on a horse to go into town. You travel 70 meters in 7 seconds going west. What is your velocity?
Velocity and vectors
Vectors are quantities that have both a size and a direction.
A quantity is something that you measure. (Examples: velocity and acceleration.)
Velocity vectors are used to illustrate the speed and direction that an object is traveling.
The direction and magnitude of the measurement are indicated by the direction that the arrow is drawn and its size.
Acceleration - when there is a change in velocity.
OR - when there is a change in speed or direction.
Acceleration occurs when there’s:
An increase in speed
A decrease in speed
Or a change in direction
Formula
a = vf - vi / t
A school bus driver sees an old man crossing the street at an intersection. The bus driver hits the brake pedal and turns the steering wheel to avoid him. Describe the acceleration of the bus.

Motion Slides

Relate the motion of a freely falling object to motion with constant acceleration.
Calculate displacement, velocity, and time at various points in the motion of a freely falling object.
Compare the motion of different object in free fall

Connections

We tested and watched a movie/short clip about it.
