The lungs and alveoli will cooperate to the fast exchange of gases in and out of the body as a matter of experiencing this fast supply of gases into and out of the lungs. This is the factor which predominantly affects the rate of aerobic respiration
Higher altitudes and depth
As the altitude increase, the atmospheric pressure decrease. The alveoli in the lungs are open to the surrounding air in the environment, due to which the pressure in the lungs decreases simultaneously with the increase in altitude, hence the respiration rate is affected. Mountain climbers often use an equipment called Oxygen cylinders, in order to help them maintain the pressure of their lungs and prevent suffocation.
Air breathed underwater by scuba divers is at the same pressure of the surrounding water. Similar to altitude, the pressure increases with the increasing depth of water, affecting the rate of respiration. IT is slightly more than 100 kPa, or one bar, for every 10 metres.
Temperature, light and CO2 concentration
The optimum temperature for respiration is 20- 30 degree celsuis.At a very high temperature, the rate of respiration decreases along with time, also at very low temperatures, the rate of respiration gets insignificant.
Light
The main source of light for all life forms is solar energy which is recieved in the form of sunlight.It is also termed as light energy. The light energy recieved from the sun, is used by all organisms to increase their body temperature, which is very essential for the control and maintain the rate of respiration
If the level of Carbon di oxide increases, the rate of respiration decreases. It is caused due to the decrease in oxygen concentration required by the lungs od any organism, which in turn leads to decrease in the rate of aerobic respiration.

Professions like diving, vocalist and swimming need lot of breath control thus affecting the rate of respiration.
Personal habits like smoking, vaping affect the rate of respiration. Due to smoking, the lungs of the smoker deposit huge amounts of tar, blocking the passage of gas exchange. The tobacco present in the cigarette weaken the strength of the lung tissues and hence, the smoker has high risks of forming respiratory disorders like asthma, bronchitis, lung cancer, tuberculosis etc. This is the second important factor which affects the rate of respiration.
Mood
Breathing patterns may vary as per the mood of a person. For example deeper breathing when a person is confident utilizes the diaphragm and the abdominal part of the body, while upset or sad, a person tends to take in less oxygen while breathing. This so far is the factor which contributes the least towards the rate of respiration.
Response to stimuli
Another factor which influences the rate of respiration is response to stimuli from the internal environment to the external environment such as a pollen grain. It inflates the air passages leading to contraction in of the muscles in the lungs. Thus more air is required. One such respiratory disorder is called the famed "fight or flight" syndrome.

The respiratory rate increases with the increase in water content of the respiring organism.“Water helps thin mucus so you can clear it better. In case of humans, moisture is much needed for maintaining the moisture of in the alveoli air sacs of the lungs and to ensure smooth exchange of gases between the surfaces.
