Speciation

Evolutionary process by which new biological species arise.

Divergence

The splitting of one species into two or more species.

Natural Selection

Greater reproductive success among particular members of a species arising from genetically determined characteristics that confer an advantage in a particular envirnment.

A permanent change in the genetic material, usually in a single gene.

In general, a group of organisms which can potentially breed with each other to produce fertile offspring and cannot breed into members of other groups.
