The formation of ethnic communities among Black children as they attended school demonstrates the significance of ethnicity in shaping social interactions. Since 1969, ethnicity has been used as a means to categorize people and create divisions among them, differing from the broader concept of race.

Problem: As Black children went to school, they began to come together and only interact with each other. They began to create their own communities for them selves within their ethnic groups.

Fact: As a white american, they had all control over which ethnicity they wanted to identify as.

Does Ethnicity matter?

Ethnicity defines who we are. Dating back to 1969, ethnicity is a sub topic to race. It was created to define the many people of this country and to create a barrier between them.

For all of the ways in which ethnicity does not matter for White Americans, it does matter for non-Whites. (p200;Waters)
Research Question: Why did it matter in those times to create ethnicity?

Conclusion: Minority ethnic groups will adapt to their surroundings while some whites will have a hard time accepting their surroundings. The underlying issue is race and the racial boundaries an individual one has set in their mind

Assumption: Their was not enough control over the racial divide they created.
