Mayor-MPP-MP
A day in the life. Although these positions vary widely in their responsibilities. there are a few things they all do. In any of these positions i would spend most of my days drafting, voting on and overseeing the enforcement of pieces of legislation. Meeting with constituents to find the most important issues needing action and hearing different citizens opinions. Giving speeches to constituents. Answering the questions of the press. And debating issues with my fellow politicians. The only real difference between these jobs is that a mayor is in charge the town-city. The MPP's and MP's are just part of the legislating group. And the decisions they are making are on different levels (Municipal, Provincial and Federal).
I have no real interest in working for a company.
I am interested in business and economics simply because i believe it to be a necessary thing to be able to understand. For my career in politics. as i believe to be able able to properly run a town, province, city etc. you need to have a firm understanding of economics. Because the economic decisions of a government have a massive impact on the life of its citizens. And if one does not understand the functions of business and economics one can not make good and educated decisions on them.
The reason i am not interested in a career in business is that i believe that although the salary in some business related careers would pay more, that if i were to be promoted i would eventually be placed in the wrong situation and would be forced to do something that is in my view ethically compromising. Simply i would rather be accountable to the workers instead of the shareholders. I believe that although some businesses are quite ethical those corporations are to small to make a difference. where as within a governmental position i would be able to make a difference as i would have the power to tell all the unethical companies what to do.
All in all i have no interest in any position within a private corporation.
Ted talk
This ted talk again relates to business fundamentals as
this ted talk talks about supply and demand, supply chain management and business ethics.
It also relates to business ethics as the entire point of the company hes building is to keep other companies tied to their claimed ethical standards. So you can have a guarantee as a consumer that your product was produced to your ethical standards. He says his company could do this by keeping a database of products. and the relevant ethical information about their production. I believe this would be a great idea. Like amazon an amazon fact checker guaranteeing your new coat wasn't made by child laborers.
It also relates to supply chain management because it talks about the different steps of the supply chain from production to consumption. And how we as consumers rarely no much if anything about the different steps of the supply chain a product goes through. He talks about using using RFID and GPS technology to track products such as fish from ocean all the way to the store or restaurant in witch we purchase the product. So we as consumers could have more information on what kind of supply chain it went through.
Supply and demand. This ted talk talks about supply and demand in the context that we as consumers have trouble finding out were the supply came from. And that if we don't no were the supply came from than we don't no what to demand. And how he intended to solve the problem.

Business fundamentals. The article relates to this unit because
In that unite we discussed Human resources, employee benefits and compensation and management styles. Which are things that can be related to the article.
Management styles. You can also connect this to managing styles. By looking at the governments managing style for the education system. It looks as though the government has an authoritative management style. As they are not at all listening to the opinions of there employees. And do not appear to be readily open to negotiate key issues in the conflict.
Employee benefits and compensation. Another issue at the heart of the conflict is employee compensation. The government as well as raising class sizes is attempting to lower the teachers yearly wage increase to 1%. This seems kind of odd as the government seems to want teachers to want to do more work for less compensation. As such the teachers are rightly kind of annoyed.
Human resources
This can be related to the article because the teachers need more of them. The heart of the conflict between the teachers and the government seems to be the fact that there is not enough teachers to teach all the students and the government is compensating for this by increasing class sizes. The teachers want this to be done the other way around and want more teachers to be hired. All in all this article can be related to HR because the subject of it is about a conflict over the governments inefficient use of them.
