"In a recent national survey, over 90% of adult cocaine users between the ages of 18 and 34 had smoked cigarettes before they began using cocaine. "
" Heavier e-cigarette use at wave 1 yielded higher odds of P12M and heavy marijuana use at wave 2 for younger adolescents." This supports the notion that underage people that vape or otherwise use nicotine products, are much more likely to use marijuana; whether it be legal or not

Are there long term problems associated with teen vaping?

"The flavoring chemical found in many e-liquids has been linked to lung disease and damage, with the aerosols entering the user’s lungs and leaving chemical residue behind. A Harvard University study found that more than 75 percent of flavored e-cigarettes and e-liquid contained chemicals linked to severe respiratory disease."

The Majority of teens are buying personal nicotine products from an older person. There is a supply chain. A person of legal age purchases a product, and then illegally sells the nicotine product to a minor.
To fight this selling and reselling market. The FDA has raised the minimum age for Tobacco and Nicotine products to 21; instead of 18.

According to an undercover California investigation, roughly half of tobacco/vape shops did not even check ID's; even for those who obviously were underage. To exacerbate this, the legal age for tobacco/products was 21, and it is state law to check for ID's for everyone; no matter the age

This articles shows how smoking/nicotine is much more addictive than alcohol. "Among those who drink alcohol on a regular basis, around 15% develop an addiction. About 45% of those who smoke on a regular basis get addicted."

"People who use alcohol can go 10 or 20 years before developing significant health problems from drinking. But people who use tobacco can easily go 20 to 30 years without developing health consequences. "
