SLIDO

Ullah, A., & Anwar, S. (2020)

This study conducted a review of a teaching practice, followed by a repeated measure approach to understand the influence of collaboration, group work, and problem-based approaches using interactive activities to enhance learner engagement. The findings indicate significant improvement in students’ feedback on learning, engagement, and group work.

Denney (2017)

Research was conducted at the Institute for Professional Development of the West-Kazakhstan region. They have tested several online platforms such as Learning Apps, Wordwall, Padlet, Linoit and Slido. Slido resulted in students interacting and contributing the most in lesson. Slido allows meeting and event organizers to crowdsource key issues, have meaningful conversations, engage participants in real-time polls, and collect event data. Slido as mentioned in this article was recognized as the best audience engagement platform in 2020.

The research observed the imrpovement of students' activeness at structure class by collecting the data through observation and measurement techniques. The result prove that student's score improved from 51% in their pre-test into 67% in the second cycle using SLIDO.

Cognitive Theory

Slido helps incorporate cognitive learning theory strategies in remote learning. . Cognitive theorists promoted the concept that the mind has an important role in learning and sought to focus on what happens in between the occurrence of environmental stimulus and student response. This is connected to motivation learning theory.

Constructivism

Vygotsky (1896-1934) Learning precedes development as the learner shifts through the “Zone of Proximal Development” in which the teacher, the learner, and a problem to be solved exists.
Learning happens through discovery where students are able to make meaning, explore relationships, and reflect on new learning. SLIDO encourages learners to actively process and organize information by making internal cognitive connections.

Behaviourism

Skinner (1904-1990) Operant Conditioning - method of learning that occurs through rewards and punishments for behavior. It looks at the causes of an action and its consequences.
Ivan Pavlov (1849-1936) Classical conditioning - involves pairing a naturally occuring stimulus with a response.
The idea that behaviour is acquired through conditioning by reward or punishment. SLIDO quizzes and interactive games.
