Digital natives, digital immigrants

New generations

Now a days, students’ brains and thinking patterns have physically changed

Think and process information fundamentally differently

Students have changes incrementally and there is a big discontinuity

The new generations spend too many hours with technology, like computers, videogames, TV, cell phones, etc.

Digital Immigrants: those who were not born into the digital world but have become fascinated by and adopted many or most aspects of the new technology.

They adapt to the new technollogy things.

They always retain, to some degree, their "accent," that is, their foot in the past.

Digital natives: all the new generations are “native speakers” of the digital language of computers, video games and the Internet.

They grew up with technollogy

Used to receiving information really fast

They prefer their graphics before their text rather than the opposite and random access

They like to parallel process and multi-task

They function best when networked

They thrive on instant gratification and frequent rewards

They prefer games to “serious” work
