Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Filming

During our preliminary task, we were given
a limited amount of time to film. This resulted
in poor use of camera skills. Looking back
our product had limited camera angles and
shots. Also, during this we were using the little
flip cameras this was very limited in what we
could do.

During the filming for our media product,
I learnt a lot with the camera as I was the
cinematographer. I learnt the importance of
using variety of shots but also, learnt how to
a tripod effectively. I also learnt about the
factors that could effect your filming e.g.
filming into the light.

Research and ideas

Whilst conducting my research and planning,
I found it really difficult to decide on a genre
to create. When I got back questionnaire's
from my peers, I found it difficult because
the comedy genre was highly picked. As an
individual who didn't have enough ideas to
produce the comedy I had to change the
genre to something I could work with.

Creating the preliminary was easy in the
sense that you didn't need to plan things
like costume and props. However, in the
product, it required a lot of thought and
planning in order for it to look right to the
audience.

Blogger

To keep a record of all work we have
done this year, we were required to
create a blog. As an individual, this is
my first time ever blogging. It hasn't
been easy, but I have learnt to use
various elements like blogging tools
to create my blog.

Editing

When editing we used Adobe Premier Pro.
When completing the preliminary task,
I wasn't the one editing. I was only
introduced to this software when it came
to the final product. At first I thought it
would be difficult working out what to do
but I managed to do it with the support
of some peers.

Whilst editing, I learnt a few things, for
example how to put sound behind
people speaking. I also learnt how to
put a back drop which before this I
never knew how to do and how to
change the lighting in scenes.

A problem with editing is that it is really
time consuming. Whilst editing, we saw
that we needed more scenes which
resulted in us going back to film again.
Had we not done this the edited footage
would have been off.

Overall

Creating our final product wasn't easy,
however, what we learnt whilst creating
our preliminary task was really helpful.
As a group, we struggled with timings.
Had we gone with the correct timings
I think our product would have been
by far much better.

A problem which we faced was creating
our narrative. As we changed our genre
through preparation time, we found it
harder to get back on track. How to
improve this for next time is to stick
to an initial idea and try to build on that.
By doing this, it'll allow more editing time.
