Pulley
a simple machine made of a grooved wheel and rope or cable wrapped around it
there are three types of pulley : fixed pulley ( MA = 1 ), moving pulley ( MA = 2), and compound pulley (must be counted first
its mechanical advantage is got by dividing its weight with force
examples of pulley: flagpole, blinds, elevators
Lever
a rigid bar that rotates around a fixed point called a fulcrum
there are 1st class lever, 2nd class lever, and 3rd class lever
examples of lever: seesaw, tweezers, crowbars
Formula of lever : (W x wa = F x fa) and (W:F = fa:wa)
Wheel and axle
a simple machine consisting of a wheel that turns around a post called an axel
makes us easier to move things from one place to another
examples: bicycles, cars, doorknobs, pencil sharpener
Screw
an inclined plane wrapped around a cone/cylinder to form a spiral
used to hold objects together
examples :of screw: screws, nuts, bolts, light bulbs
Inclined planes
is a flat surface that is raised at one end
makes it easier to move things to a higher location
examples: ramps and slides
formula of inclined plane : (F x ℓ = W x h)
Wedge
two inclined planes placed back to back
used to separate, cut, or split objects apart
examples: axes, knives, and chisels
