He is an high school pupil. Comes from a poor family. Lives on a farm with his family. Helps his dad on the farm. Is afraid of his dad. Doesn't want to dissappoint his dad.

The first in his family to go to high school

At night Dave was thinkning about the next day. " What will professor Herbert think of me. I will tell him when Pa leaves that I couldn't help it, but Pa might shoot him. I hate to go with Pa. Maybe he will cool off about it tonight and not go in the morning."

The father is also blunt (בוטה) and quite violent. the father is a hard working man that has been working all his life to support his family.

He is the boy's teacher. educated, good person with a good heart,

Mom- she is worried for the boy becuase she knows the father is stubborn ,rude and violent.""you just stay away from there", " you can be jailed fer a trick like that", "you will plague your own boy, Dave to death".
