Galileo Galilei, an Italian mathematician and natural philosopher, made significant contributions to science between the late 16th and early 17th centuries. Born in Pisa in 1564, he held academic positions in Pisa, Padua, and Florence, and was appointed court philosopher by the ruler of Florence from 1610 to 1632.
