Mean, Median, Mode, and Range

Descriptive statistics involve measures like mean, median, mode, and range, which help summarize a set of data. The mean, often referred to as the average, is found by adding up all the numbers and dividing by the total count.

Finding Mean, Median, Mode, and Range

Range

The "range" is just the difference between the largest and smallest values.

Mode

The "mode" is the value that occurs most often. If no number is repeated, then there is no mode for the list.

Median

What if there are two numbers in the middle? How do you find the median?
You calculate the mean of the two numbers to determine the median of the set of data!
The "median" is the middle value in the list of numbers. To find the median, your numbers have to be listed in numerical order, so you may have to rewrite your list first.

Mean

Note that the mean isn't always a value from the original list.
18/3=6
18/(number of data)
2+7+9=18
"Mean" is another word for the average. To Find the mean of a set of data, you add up all the numbers and then divide by the number of data.
