Create a welcoming and inclusive school environment

Create learning experiences that celebrate diversity

Develop appropriate methods for assessing and evaluating student learning that would be fair for all students considering their gaps in the language

As a science teacher ensure there are word walls, and vocabulary sheets as many terms in science are considered to be a new language of its own

Work with colleagues (ESL/ELD teachers, mainstream subject teachers, teacher-librarians, special education teachers, and guidance) to support and help ELL students integrate successfully into the academic and social life of the School

This could be done by encouraging the student to join clubs/teams and encouraging group work in class

Provide opportunities to practice and apply new learning through regular and varied assessment and provide specific feedback

What designation should the student
receive? (ESL/ELD support)

Student should receive ESL Support

ESL programs are intended for students
whose first language is a language other
than English

first language literacy skills and education
backgrounds

Student should receive ESL support opposed
