Unit 1 - How to Effectively Use Computers - 15% of Final Grade

Activity 1 - Safety + Ethics relative to "How to Effectively Use Computers" + Quiz which follows

Activity 2: Set up your portfolio space and how to appropriately title and organize files in Google Drive.

Activity 3: Alternative organizational strategies: Mindomo, etc. - how to schedule the production of a "professional media product".

Activity 4: Advanced Microsoft Excel/Powerpoint/Word etc. functions

Summative Activity: 2 Pop Quizzes or checkups to be administered at a randomly selected point in the course - assessment of learning: are students keeping their files organized moving forward into the different units.

Unit 2 - How to Effectively Use Cameras - Analogue Edition 15% of Final Grade

Activity 1 - Safety + Ethics relative to "How to Effectively Use Cameras" + Quiz which follows

Activity 2: Exploration of analogue photography: aperture & depth of field.

Activity 3: Shutter Speed & Analogue Photography

Activity 4: White Balance, Focal Length, ISO and Focus - in the context of analogue photography.

Activity 5: Zooming, Panning & Tripod Use - in the context of analogue photography.

Activity 6: Mirror Lock Up & Frame Rate in the context of analogue photography.

Activity 7: Cinematography in the context of analogue photography.

Summative Activity: Create a portfolio & sizzle real with film.

Unit 3 - Vector Graphics + Real World Deliverables Related To Graphic Design 20% of Final Grade

Activity 1 - safety/ethics that pertain to vector graphics and real world deliverables + Quiz which follows

Activity 2: How to make vector graphics.

Activity 3: Preparation of graphics for print media - biz cards, invitations, stickers, brochures, magazines, billboards, etc.

Activity 4: Preperation of graphics for "hard goods" - laser engraved ephemera, 3D printing, CNC machines, rapid prototyping, silkscreens, t shirts, skateboards, etc.

Summative Activity: create a tangiable graphic design deliverable like a biz card, invitation, sticker, brochure, magazine, billboard, banner, skateboard, t shirt, laser engraved piece of ephemera, etc.

Unit 4 - Video Game Design & Interactive VR Projects - 20% of Final Grade

Activity 1 - Safety + Ethics relative to Video Game Design & Interactive VR Projects

Activity 2 - Video Game / VR design from the design/art based perspective: art & character design, sprite design & looping animation

Activity 2 - Video Game / VR design from the coders perspective: game engines & UX design.

Summative Activity: Create your own video game or interactive VR project.

Unit 5 - Culminating Activity: Create a "professional media product" + all the bells and whistles that go along with it. 30% of Final Grade

Options: - Create a podcast in video format (or with visuals/slideshow) with an accompanying thumbnail logo or advertising/press materials.
- Create a short film, animated short or documentary with accompanying poster.
- Create an eBay, etsy, facebook marketplace account with detailed item listings that contain video assets.
- Create a video in the “other” category: perhaps a mock school newscast, cooking show or how to video tutorial -> how to video must have step by step instructions via photos or illustrations, cooking show must step by step recipe with photos (like from a cookbook).
- Record a song with an accompanying music video or “behind the music” mockumentary and album cover.
- Create an art, fashion, photography or graphic design portfolio with an accompanying mock “pre-recorded video interview”.
- Students will also be encouraged to come up with their own concept for a project, they would just have to have a conversation with me beforehand so I can vet the idea for appropriateness.

If you took grade 11 comm-tech you must select a different concept than last time.
