1. Read the instructions carefully.
What does your interlocutor need?
What information from the source text is relevant to cater for those needs?
Consider the suitable register (formal/informal) for your interlocutor.
2. Plan your output:
Consider how you will reformulate the source text to suit your interlocutor's needs.
Consider what mediation strategies are relevant to the task.
Consider an introduction, body, and conclusion.
Note down key concepts.
Note down key words you want to use.
3. Mediate!
Use the suitable register.
Try to be concise and to the point.
Use level-appropriate grammar and vocabulary - unless you are required to simplify a complex text -.
Do not exceed the time limit (around 2.5 to 3 minutes) or word limit (100-120 words typically).
