Multifaceted Role of A Teacher Librarian

Facilitator of Student Learning

- teaching students how to be proficient and utilize a variety of technology, digital resources to facilitate learning and assessment

Exposing students to a variety of new fiction and non-fiction resources

facilitating rich tasks to educate our students on a variety of paperback and electronic resources, how to learn through web based application to support their digital literacy in conjunction with literacy

Manager of Content and Operations

Managing and maintaining resources within the learning commons

ensuring funding for new technologies and platforms

maintains the learning commons environment to provide a visually appealing place where students want to learn and can be safe while doing so

advocate for new resources both digital and in print (i.e.m indigenous resources, LGBQT resources, mental health, new systems)

ensuring the longevity and management of material (books, iPads, Chromebooks, 3D glasses, robotics etc.) to ensure they last in the long run

Regulator of Character Education

provides students with an environment where they feel safe to take risks and feel comfortable

provides students with opportunities to collaborate and communicate in a mini-society

provides extra curricular opportunities to build upon the variety of strengths of our students (ie., Peel Skills, Forest of Reading etc.)

Initiative Enforcer

supports and promotes school wide initiatives (engage math, LLI, EQAO nights etc.)

promotes and brings to life resources that will help facilitate and promote school and board initiatives through own expertise and resources

Models and Teaches The Use of Resources

promotes, educates and enforces copyright

teaches students how to filter resources (i.e., educating students on all the digital search engines resource and data sources that are credible

promotes and advocates for student work (creative Commons)

Provides staff with new resources to help in the development of their program by providing and cataloguing current resources

Passionate about building the capacity for learning within the learning commons

attending professional developments to be proficient in the use of new technologies, systems and resources to ensure that their students have been provided a variety of new and exciting opportunities

Helps teachers hit curriculum goals through promoting and provide collaboration opportunities to hit the big ideas through rich tasks

using technology to provide rich summative tasks for, of and as assessment (i.e., seesaw videos for assessment)
